Her first single since 2009 is a masterpiece. It is instanataneously the song to beat. A piano (surprise!!) based track with echoey drums and maybe a little bit overproduced. But it is a magnificently strange thing
I consider myself well versed in his life and times and to this day hold him in high regard. This is what makes things like this so painful.
What this equates to is about 10 albums of unreleased material. Interesting don’t you think? 10 albums? That’s an awful lot of material if you ask me. That’s greater than most bands careers
April is going to be amazing’ says Goldenvoice on its facebook page, sure, you will be easily be able to go to four of five Goldenvoice shows every day!
He will go on tour though- as an ‘ambassador’. What the heck?! Get into training son don’t let us down. Even just do it for a few songs, don’t sit there in a chair.. you’re making our age group look old!
Both Iron Maiden and Van Halen have covered him and, er, he introduced the world to Sammy Hagar!
OK, a review of an album that’s a blatant lie. So what? So this. Stone prints hard hitting political journalism, they interview Presidents, and they have a clearly Democratic agenda. That’s OK with me. I’m an independent myself but I got no kick. Except, if they will lie about a lousy album by Springsteen, what else are they LYING about.
At his other band, Atlas Sound, gig at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis the weird bloke claimed the death of folk and rebirth of punk
On the the hand, Pissed Jeans were much better when I caught Ceremony headlining earlier this year, on the other hand it is exceedingly difficult this loud, drums heavy slice of punk. Yeah punk, not hardcore.
I know I’ve said lots of mean things about the band, but I have never said they’re bad live. Martin is energetic and handsome, all three songs were good, especially “Viva La Vida”.
It was an earthshaking hardcore sound, which resonated like a loud and painful agony, a violent number which took the longest time to start up, slowly building up in a sludge-doom instrumentation
As the iconic in his own write photographer recently noted to rock nyc: “Mick Rock might have shot the ’70s but I had it covered after that!
Kool And The Gang might be a nostalgia band but they are a completely pro nostalgia, capable of getting the mid-40 Van Halen fans to shake their ever widening booties
It seems like a never-ending quest, finding someone’s personality through some tastes or preferences, and the eternal question of which one came first, the musical taste or the personality? Which one did influence the other?
Alot of their work is programmed so it can be easy to dismiss as pre recorded. A light show and tons of smoke machines with laser makes small clubs feel like stadium and Delonge is able to fill a stage with his presence
See this is why some guys are legend. Lowe looks great by the way, all elder gentry in the Buddy Holly specs and its nice to see Wilco and Robyn Hitchcock helping out their pal.
That’s more a pop band offering but then again BVB are cute enough to get away with that (though I wonder if damages their tough guy visions?)
James Brown was always an erratic performer by this stage of his career. He was pretty good and he was undoubtedly James Brown. And Rosemary Clooney was undoubledly Rosemary Clooney and there was a lot of her! She fell soon pretty soon after this.
A few weeks ago a statement was released to announce that DWP keyboardist James Barney was no longer in the band.
Among the 58 and plus tracks, there will be an exclusive alternate version with vocals of Deerhunter’s Grayscale, debuts or exclusives from Throwing Muses, The Night Marchers, Zoë Keating, Hurry Up, Hungry Ghost, Brute Heart, rarities and live tracks
“I called up my buddy Steve Diamond and asked him his take on the new Madonna single. “It’s pretty good, much better than the first. Good beat, works on the dancefloor, typically so so lyrics. I’ve heard some really good remixes”.
Bruce lead off with his two weakest songs, but on first listen this is his best album since at least The Rising. What does that mean? A B+ is my feeling..
If some of the old Motown hits seem tied to their era (it’s the shuffling bass), this Smokey Robinson song slips through time periods as it mixes in a jazz aesthetic with a disco (long before of course) rhythm section. Some people claim the lead singer is the best singer of all time.
I went after most of the artists that I had good relationships with, Cheap Trick are still great friends, I told the CREEM editors about The Pretenders almost a year before the first album was out. On another note, I keep taking pictures of Iggy even when interest in him wained
Creatures, that’s their name! And with a furious sound carried by the long raucous howls of the singer spitting out some undecipherable lyrics, the five of them were looking like a bestial herd
Before DNA testing could prove who the father of a child was, and before condoms and the pill could control nwanted pregnancy, men had a vested interest in controlling female sexuality.
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. – Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
The infamous Apollo Theater in NYC will play host to scads of musical genius as it raises funds for The Blues Foundation and The Robert Johnson Foundation
How can you call it quits when Bowie is a big fan of your band? But seriously, I don’t think Bowie’s fandom was a motivation, and the band still has to release a statement why they decided to reform now.
I remember three things about first show…cindy came back and wore a silver turban. Studying fred playing the glockenspiel and getting goosebumps hearing private idaho live.”
What I find most odd this week is the combo of Madonna and Joe Perry on The Tonight Show, but on the happy side we do have The Horrors on Friday, TGIF!
Well, Billy Ray, your little girl has joined the dark side! Otherwise why would she tweet it to her 5 million followers? I just hope she got the whole quote right
“Fire” never sounded so good. How Costello can take a hot tune and sizzle it is the magic of Elvis. I will always adore him even as he ages and becomes a more ego pumped nutbag.
London based Daughter have only one EP to their name, last year’s His Young Heart. Just three tracks butm this, according to the Guardian, musical progeny of Enya and Eno, is a doozy.
Now this is better and well done Meat Loaf. The album isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever, ever, ever heard. Though i thought he sucked on stage. the last coupla times I’ve seen.
Wow, is this depressing or what? To quote For Science, sometimes I wonder if the sun is outside, sometimes I wonder if I’m even alive.
1. Breakfast – Chiddy Bang – Title track off the best hip hop album of the year is all about a horns riddled sample that the two kids rap around, between and over,
Jack being on SNL was a glimmer of hope in my week. No Bon Iver, no Jessie J, no Foster The People .. finally something I could love!
Best of all is Marcellus’s inspired steal of the hook to “Big Yellow Taxi” on “Star Position” -a terrific song and a promise that the man is the real thing. As for the set? An orange is an orange but so is a carrot.
Arcade Fire’s song ‘Abraham’s Daughter’ for the T Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack of the movie ‘Hunger Games’, which will be out on March 20th
Bow Wow Wow are one of the bands you forget you love, yet when you hear them you’re rewarded with some of the most fun music of all time
the tune is a rather uplifting one, quite complex to describe, with lots of guitars, a dense pop-rock melody and Mercer’s high vocals. It is far less bombastic than ‘Simple Song’
There are so many great band films (and not so great ones!) but for some reason seeing them really give you the illusion of insight in to the inner workings of rock and roll.
The Sunset Junction Fair may never resuscitate but the 2012 Silver Lake Jubilee line-up is there, with a plethora of indie bands, and more to come in the following weeks.
Not bad I guees. Bruce, the Shins, the Ting Tings. The Hunger Games soundtrack -what I’ve heard hasn’t been all that… Magnetic Fields? I haven’t much dug them since 69 Love Songs, I have a friend who swears by Margot And The So And Sos and is going to DC to see em. One other? KAISER CHIEFS!!!
I don’t particulalrly like where Frankie came from, the drone pop of bands like Vivian and Dum Dum Girls, and I haven’t much cared for where she’s gone. But that’s as much a boredom inthe relentless amorphous melodies. It’s like trying to hang on to butterfly wings, the songs are crushed out of your memory the harder you listen. Grade: B
Ruby, Are You Mad At your Man – Carolina Chocolate Drops – The album is very good, but not this good. It puts the blue into bluegrass and slaps about every instrument in the room.
the band barreled through one hit after another turning the Arena into a sweaty rock and roll club. Interspersed by Dave’s consistently self-amused commentary on the action and Eddie’s short, fluid, guitar solos. They managed to cover just about all of the Dave era fan faves and still have time for a drum solo.
she never gave away anything until February 29th at a concert in Washington D.C.when Hill performed a newly recorded song, titled “Fearless Vampire Killer”.
