I called up my buddy Steve Diamond and asked him his take on the new Madonna single. "It's pretty good, much better than the first. Good beat, works on the dance floor, typically so so lyrics. I've heard some really good remixes".
Essentially my take except I don't think the lyric is typical. Madonna used to be a pretty good lyricist but she has grown lazier and lazier and now it is beginning to effect her songs. "Girl Gone Wild" has the germ of a great idea, a criss cross on her bad catholic girl subject matter. That's Madonna's best subject and she has a lot to say about it, but she hasn't got the language any more.
The song bounces well on its bass and the vocals are nicely layered computer generated passion plays, but a trope like this wouldn't last the first cut with Lady Gaga. Should I say that again? Lady Gaga wouldn't bother with a lyrical conceit so belabored and boring. Luckily for Madonna, we no longer go to her for the thought process.
