Mountain At My Gate – Foals – The honest voice of alt rock from the UK, sound the way Elbow might if they were less ambitious and also sound the way you hope rockers might with a rush at the end that storms both the mountain and the gate – B+
“Retired Army Spc. Tyler A. Jeffries offered up a heartfelt proposal — and ringbox — to Lauren Lilly, who said “Yes!” as former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, along with former First Lady Barbara Bush, looked on. Jeffries, from Florida, lost both legs to an IED in October 2012.” I am sure everything was very heartfelt, and it is a moving story of true love,. HOWEVER, what if Lily really didn’t want to marry him?
Filmed at various motels in Wildwood Crest, NJ, there is something so displaced about the motel shots it seems to be waiting on Robert Mitchum to displace it in time. The live footage was filmed in NYC.
Oh Well – Fleetwood Mac – The Peter Green Mac masterpiece, over a period of decades it has become a blues classic, an epic song of insecurity and defiance, sometimes by God – A+
Well, I know for sure what is not the most anticipated new album of net week (late next week to be precise), and that would be the new Jason Isbell, one of the biggest disappointments of 2015. I have a full review in mind, maybe by Sunday, and will not be a happy thing at all. Alan Jackson? He sucked so bad at Carnegie Hall a coupla years ago, I am not too thrilled any more. Pitbull releases album after song after album, Chemical Brothers -wasn’t crazy about the single. I think I’ll go with the psychedelic weirdos who were so good at Governors Ball earlier this year, win first place.
Dick Van Patten was the dad all of us wanted, a great job and two full families crammed together with a sweet disposition and a constant smile on “Eight Is Enough”. After that I recognized him from time to tome, he was the weakling doctor in “High Anxiety” for one, and it improved anything I was watching always. he died today at the age of 86, complications from diabetes
JD McPherson gave a really great show to the Amoeba crowd, playing a set full of a vibrant energy deeply rooted in American music history. Despite his young age, McPherson transports his audience in an early-Elvis era, as his 50’s-inspired music sounds like a Sun Records throwback
As I grew older, the Who’s music seemed to grow with me. The sexual frustration, the politics, identity. These things coursed through my veins with every concurring Who album. I always found myself there somewhere in their music. “The Seeker”; the seeker is the guy in “Born to Run.”
So, I went to Barclay Center last night and saw Neil Diamond, got home late, minimal sleep, of to work
Nothing personal, but the thing about pop music is it has to be popular and Madonna better start selling some more copies. Meanwhile, the X Factor winning Rebecca Ferguson and the five piece harmony band take on black music, with varying degrees of success and not a lot of it.
Back then, though, Buck and Merle were closely associated; two of a kind. They defined the Bakersfield sound. Buck reached out to me in those days, and lifted up my spirits when I was down, I mean really down
What have I done to deserve this special attention? No vocal range? When’s the last time you heard Dr. John? Why don’t you say that about him? Slur my words, got no diction. Have you people ever listened to Charley Patton or Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters. Talk about slurred words and no diction
I hope to be a little more discriminating in 2015, and weeded this list down from 60 songs. I also want to be more careful, my consumer bound. I plan three lists. One, best songs of the year, two best songs of the month and three very best songs of the year. Say the top thirty or so. The deside is not to have the unwieldy lists of last to as much a dregree as possible. This is (more or less) in order but my Top 20 is in definitive order
Known for prominent guitar leads and stressed vocals, Knuckle Puck have recognized the conventions of a modern Pop-Punk band and fit it to their own, unique sound. Each track on this EP shows Knuckle Puck as a maturing band, ready to take their craft to the next level
For a foreign band, at the smaller level that they are, Gnarwolves most definitely deserve more praise for their craft and should absolutely be headlining all of the big summer tours found in the American punk world.
Take Me Home, Country Roads – John Denver – this is one of the songs you think you know better than you do, a heartfelt country diddle anthem that comes into its own on the bridge, which is better than the chorus – A-
It’s difficult for me to accept the steady decline in the music industry. Streaming services are killing record sales, and are slowly dying out one by one themselves. With that, they are slowing dragging down the entire music business
My bet is they will be back in 2016 as well and end it all in London around two years from now, Pete and Roger make 50 million a piece and live happily ever after. I also really hope they get Wilko Johnson, if he is still kicking, one of the great disappointments in the Daltry-Johnson tour didn’t make it to New York. The film I saw was superior to the Who last year.
They formed in Los Angeles in 1992 and have sold roughly 17 million records worldwide. Hits include “Buddy Holly”, “Hash Pipe” and “Pork and Beans” and on this warm fall evening in Long Beach, none of these songs were played.
BAD LANDS are the thoughts you had last night while you were drinking & the words you let slip out that aren’t forgotten. Mowgli + Rocky, charming villains.
From our panel participation and various Austin visits, we teamed with our Rock Star publicist (Karen Sundell) and had a brainstorm to create an annual Miles experience. We got so much love from SXSW and the music community, wanting more Miles, that we decided to roll-out an event that would honor Miles, while supporting the next generation of musicians
Fly Panda is and will be the biggest, baddest, illest pop group you’ve ever seen. We are bigger than life; we are far beyond your regular or average group. This group breathes life into your boring pop music. We are Fly Panda.
“East coast punk rock has always been a huge influence in our music. My first band was called The Thunder Boys named after our gloomy Rock N Roll hero Johnny Thunders. We’re pretty excited to continue the legacy of a venue that housed the Ramones first gig and bands like Television, Blondie, and Richard Hell”
Viv Peyrat sounds to these ears like a classic rocker with a modern hook bent! Here are his answers to five question posed to him with his suitable for streaming debut EP The Introduction. Here Viv answers five questions.
rock nyc is beyond excited for what looks to be a hard rocking loud soft evening of cool young bands…
A band like The Wonder Years puts so much passion into their music that they should be that band, they refuse to give up, and make it known through their music, and when a band is that hard working, they should be playing huge arenas and touring the world
Full blown CD’s of acoustic songs are not my normal cup of tea but at least I didn’t cringe or quit listening to any of these songs in disgust. Zak Smith can write a song with melody and I imagine the Springsteen influences and comparisons will level out in the future. If I were to grade this I would give this a B .
The difference between Johnny and his former band The Drums (I mean the Drums of the first two albums) is swing, which Aries doesn’t do enough on this the title track of his new album. But the mood? The mood is very similar – B+
beyond lame and that is if you accept that I underestimated Wiz a little. Though how much can you underestimate a man who spends his life writing love letters to marijuana leafs? And doesn’t even have a sense of humor about it.
I am the furthest thing from a prude (nor was I innocent when I was younger) but I can be somewhat conservative as I ahem mature or maybe it has more to do with having little girls. Troubled me seeing young woman drunk or on drugs walking by themselves or throwing themselves at men (boys)
This is the beauty of youth. You cannot or will not be denied when it comes to rock and roll. When we saw him in San Diego, we had seats in the first row right behind the stage and after the encore, Max threw his drumsticks to the crowd and I caught one of them…then Bruce threw his sweaty towel to us also…and I caught it!
By the time the tour dipped five days later into the Southeast, with shows in Memphis, Raleigh, and Atlanta, “Androgynous” was No. 4 on the Billboard chart and No. 3 on Cashbox’s, the album had been certified gold, and the iconic photo of Terri and Dev cheek to cheek shared the cover of the new Creem with Empress
I packed my camera and some homemade kale chips and headed down to The Yankee Doodle in New Haven, “house show” venue owned by Jon Stone of 10,000 Blades, a phenomenal CT band in their own right. Gabriel Mortali, Chris Cappello, Macaulay of Ava Marie, and Jon Stone would be playing in the candlelit room
“You become a pauper because of your pirated works, they impoverish you. What is more wicked than pirating someone’s intellectual property and making the person suffer without getting anything from all the money he invested in the works.”
They claim to have been influenced by punk rock bands, but I see no signs of this. They’re another shitty pop boy band that I pray is just some flash in the pan. However, you can find pictures of the boys clad in Misfits, Sex Pistols, and other ‘punk band’ merch you can pick up at any Urban Outfitters
IIt’s a weird realization, feeling like I’ve grown out of who I’ve considered my favorite musician for years. I’ll still listen to him, I don’t skip Bright Eyes when it comes up on shuffle, but his newer work doesn’t appeal to me and some of his older stuff is unlistenable. Conor’s grown up, and I have too, and we’ve gone our separate ways.
