(Vince Wilburn, Jr., nephew of late jazz icon Miles Davis, oversees Miles Davis Properties, LLC, along with Erin Davis (son of Miles) and Cheryl Davis (daughter of Miles). Tell me about the new vinyl coming out on Record Store Day – Black Friday.
It’s a holiday season release titled Blue Vinyl. It’s a cool stocking stuffer!
How did Miles Davis House at SXSW come together?
From our panel participation and various Austin visits, we teamed with our Rock Star publicist (Karen Sundell) and had a brainstorm to create an annual Miles experience. We got so much love from SXSW and the music community, wanting more Miles, that we decided to roll-out an event that would honor Miles, while supporting the next generation of musicians. We look forward to it every year.
What does the spirit of CBGBs mean to you?
CBGB’s in some instances is the birth place of the NY rock and punk scene. CBGB’s stands for visionary evolution. Pushing the boundaries of music, art and culture. As did Sir Miles Dewey Davis.
What would you like future generations to take away from his music?
To never be afraid to explore.
