Alexandra And The Starlight Band – THE ROCK NYC / CBGB'S ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

(As part of rock nyc’s ongoing partnership on the “Acoustic Anarchy” show”, part of the CBGB’s Festival and happening at the Cake Shop on October 9th, we are presenting an artist spotlight of each performer. Alexandra And The Starlight Band are what might happen if Janis joplin fronted T-Rex: in the very best way possible!! Here are the duos answers to five question we posed. At the bottom is every song we could find on Spotify… including the Christmas ones! Plus a ton of other stuff.)

Who the “F” is Alexandra Starlight?

Alex: I have no idea, Ask Zach….

Zach: Alexandra is my ultra violet twin flame wielding LOVE & LIGHT atop her rainbow unicorn Isis. She also has the power to make ya move and ta make you groove uncontrollably so ya betta watch out when she hits the stage!!

I hear you’ve been holed up in the studio. Can you share any news about your new release?

Alex: Yessss! We are currently writing a brand new record and demoing out songs together at our studio Starry Eyes Studios at our pad, working with some top secret wizards! We’re like Elton John & Bernie-ing it up hardcore right now. We just got a baby grand piano and Zach has been serenading me with ideas in his Raiders jersey and tie dye shorts. It’s super romantic. It’s pretty epic to get to create stuff with your true love.

Zach: Yea! Like Alex said we’re cranking out a bunch of new tunes for our upcoming record. It’s been great hanging at home writing together everyday wit my twin flame! Really excited about how it’s been going. New sounds and new vibes coming atcha soon!

What’s at the top of your Bucket List?

Alex: Mmmm we’d love to tour & see the world, visit the pyramids, successfully astral project, have a flock of maybe 30 different colored pug children, create a song or a record that becomes lasting, timeless music that hooks itself into people’s lives…start a love revolution…oh, and maybe a GRAMMY would be nice…

Zach: Other than making great music, touring the world, and spreading LOVE to all beings… ummmm, a GRAMMY would be sick!!

What does the spirit of CBGBs mean to you?

Alex: We grew up playing punk rock here in California dreaming of the leather weather, battered jeans, scuffed platforms and cat eyes of New York and CBGBs, the Ramones, The NY Dolls, etc. All the music that was coming out of CBGBs was such a huge inspiration to us, so it’s a major honor to celebrate CBGB’s legacy! It’s truly a rock ‘n’ roll icon. Even though we’ve never gotten to play at the actual old CBGB’s before it got torn down, I think we’ve imagined many a sweaty show within those graffiti-ridden walls.

Zach: East coast punk rock has always been a huge influence in our music. My first band was called The Thunder Boys named after our gloomy Rock N Roll hero Johnny Thunders. We’re pretty excited to continue the legacy of a venue that housed the Ramones first gig and bands like Television, Blondie, and Richard Hell.

What would you like future generations to take away from your music?

A & Z: LOVE.
