Last Salute To The Blank Generation: My Top Seven Songs Of the '70s
The tagline, “I belong to the blank generation,” became the battle cry for the CBGB’s punk rock crowd. The perfect angst anthem for self-designated outcasts.

It’s definitely a new sound, and has a more well-rounded feel than “Phoenix” and “Light Em Up”. I take back what I said about “Phoenix”- because this will be THE song of summer 2013. It has a hint of pop pizazz but is most certainly “indie” enough for the other fans. It just makes you feel happy, which is really nice
You simply COULD NOT listen to anything outside your scene. In an odd sort of gang mantality you all stayed the same in your quest to be unique. I missed out on alot of great music and still even tons of years later I am unable to allow myself to like alot of it.
I’ve been in quite a nostalgic mood, music-wise, so I decided to give a listen to the original Lion King soundtrack. It is the greatest opening scene to any of the films Disney’s ever done.
From what I can gather they were local heroes with a huge teen girl following around NYC in the 70s. Not quite the Trouser Press gang but more like neighborhood heroes. They had brains enough not to get too sucked up in things, cuz wait til you hear what’s up with them now.
am not a country girl- I freakin hate nature, but for some reason this same visual conjures up every late June. As a kid there were trips to the beach or the country but this image seems more like Kansas or something- no clue
The tune is being used in the new film Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp. So basically this is a film taken from a fabulous original with a soundtrack of copies of fabulous originals which means, ain’t nothin new here.
So what’s up with Notorious B.I.G.? I know he’s legend, I know he died young- that’s it. Til I was introduced to the song “Juicy” a story of the rise of a boy who went from nothing to wealth.
the slow tune could easily be qualified of ‘country’, but Beck’s vocals are definitively too familiar to be missed, although there is something about his voice that sounds a little different, is it the ageing?
I like this band a lot but there is at least one reason they don’t break pop and that’s because they don’t write pop. The song breaks here are constantly disrupting the flow of the song: it’s like they’re attentionally perpendicular.
“Black Treacle” doesn’t suck at all. Much more production buzz but vocally pure and vulnerable. Maybe Alex Turner got dumped by all those model types that were making him in to a fashionista instead of a rocker.
As if this masterpiece didn’t already have enough emotional buildup that’s so strong it’s almost painful to listen to, the last line always makes me teary-eyed. There’s a sinking feeling in my stomach each time I hear it or read it, because it’s so tragic and unbelievable.
This is a great slut rock song for party time. I suppose if I were under the influence of some intoxicant I would appreciate this more but the slow beat (intended to be sexy I suppose) makes me agitated
Almost like it was recorded in their garage. Not Dave Grohls garage, oh no no, I mean that retro sounding rock. I cant say I was blown away. I cant say I was impressed
In a total Justin Vernon’s ambiance, wearing wool/fur hats, the five guys of Miracles of Modern Science are sitting around a table lightened with candles, as they are singing a song mixing Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ lyrics with Bon Iver’s falsetto
It’s fascinating to watch because parts of it are funny, but then there’s more serious parts that really captivate you and draw you in. It’s ridiculously well done and one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a while.
Jon Brion can bring all the delicate acoustic guitar she wants, strip down the song as much as he can (the guy can do miracle), I still find Perry’s bluesy and crying voice forced and annoying.
The lyrics are beautiful, too. They’re just accentuated by the singer’s raw and powerful voice. The way the instruments support his voice really pulls the song together and makes it interesting to listen to
So then, since I am not a teenaged boy why do I like this ‘noise’ so much? I’m not sure but the sound of a proper scream can be liberating even to an old crow such as myself.
It features two runaway lesbian gangsters, played by Syd and actress Jasmine Flemings, armed to the teeth and greatly enjoying the killing and the robbing during their journey in the desert.
1,400 in attendance, Three million dollars earned and two lines sung. C’mon America, I beg you don’t let this be cool.
Shes the hoe hero and always came off a bit too prison yard for me. Yet in this video she comes across as a bad ass smart girl that you’d pretty much avoid in a hallway
The song has always held a special place in my heart because of the lyrics. It really is the MCR anthem to me, and it is truly symbolic of how things get better, times are rough, but you just need to remain yourself.
It’s a huge step up and is the best song that D.R.U.G.S. has ever released. For the first time, I am appalled and stunned by the perfection and how I can feel the effort they put into the song. I’m totally blown away.
The thing about Glenn’s voice is that it is in no way smooth and clear sounding tothe ear. It is raw and passionate and it adds an element of explosiveness to the song that is hard to miss.
The music is fantastic, so upbeat and with loads of high and lows. Tempo? Perfection. Even the voice is fine- its just how its said. Petty? Perhaps but like a small pebble in your shoe at first it can be overlooked, four hours in and you want to amputate your leg
He has the perfect voice for this song; it really shows off his talent. The instruments are tight and dynamic, which makes them really interesting to listen to
It is super short and works like an awesome hammer hitting you repeatedly on the head,… it is true you don’t need to be ‘fucked up’ to experience what this guy does at a Trash Talk concert, as the bloody ambiance seems pretty realistic to me.
The song, which was performed live during his last world tour, is the second single from his upcoming album ‘Old Ideas’, set to be released on January 31st on Columbia, his first studio album since 2004!
Perhaps if what Jay-Z wants to do is express his feelings about about being a parent, he should do so by writing the best song he can.
It is quite close to The Shins’ typical sound, although the music seems to be escaping the chiming signature sound of their first album, while being bolder and a touch more upbeat than usual
Recorded for the charity “Lunchbox Fund”, this song is the perfect mixing of a really strong accent and the light melody running in the background. You could hear this in an elementary school without a doubt.
There is some balance though, in this new song “Filth Friends Unite”. Im not sure if they decided to meet in the middle or if it just worked out but the vocal quality for both on this is really very strong. Yay for something positive.
I don’t know who got the idea to contrast such disastrous images with this calm and soothing ballad but it sure makes perfect sense,…isn’t 2012 supposed to be the year of the apocalypse anyway?
It is a cinematic tale juxtaposing violence coming from human then nature itself, with a horrific development and an escape after the apocalypse. Or may be the whole thing was just a dream?
Luckily I don’t pay much mind to it- heck we all have a quirk to us, I suppose kids today just want to be unique- nearly impossible in a world of “been theres and done thats”.
I always thought the song quite good. Which is why I find this jam session version so repulsive. The song and the band are very similar to the stage shown in this video. An overcrowded mess, like a dorm room floor.
not one hundred percent, but I’m pretty sure none of them actually play an instrument. They just stand around and sing. How bland.
Cee Lo Green tweeted this after being aware of the angry reactions:
‘Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I wast rying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that’s all’
Where do I start?
Perhaps my insomnia,unfinished business,cold sweats,
Regret,desire,ambition and creativity– all
They had an option- hardcore the mother out or pop it up
DONT DO BOTH.
Look Mexico has so much talent as a whole they’re a powerhouse and I really want to see them live.
The song, which does not seem to have a title, showcases Marissa Paternoster’s loud and bold howl over shredding guitars and quite a lot of distortion.
I’ve never heard a voice like his, but it’s really enjoyable because it is so different. His range is impressive and it makes it his own, making it dimensional and interesting.
a random band that nobody has ever heard about, can compose songs which can fool at least 50% of the fans and 80%of the media, what does it mean for Radiohead?
Paul McCartney has fans that will rip your lungs out and kick them down the road if you say the slightest negative word. So how bold am I to just jump right in here and take a stab at this Soundcloud offering from Pauls forthcoming album?
This is sorta cute but a bit phlegmy- like she should have cleared her throat or maybe she had just chugged some egg nog or something. Not wonderful, but not a horror.
A song that is your golden ticket to simply be yourself. Think about it, we spend so much time hiding what we feel- this song is your free pass to letting it all out. The end result being we are loved by those who matter for just being ourselves
The most bizarre kids song of all time. The titular bull’s biggest ambition was to be part of a bullfight and be stabbed to death by Spanish guys. The moral is… actually, I’n not sure what the moral. dates from 1959, so I guess that might explain it.
However the lyrics lack any real thought and it feels fake, overdone, and just boring. It’s absolutely nothing special and quite disappointing.
