The only bummer of the show is the fact that the staff was a bit out of control, pulling people out of the “pit” left and right. It was disappointing and totally not justified because no one was getting hurt, but I guess they’d never dealt with an event of this magnatude before
Following the pre-taped introduction, the band hit the stage like a tornado – using wireless equipment gives the guitarists the freedom to stomp around the stage like rabid pachyderms. There’s plenty of flash, crunch, and bombast typical of a heavy metal show
The Horrors took the stage after 11 pm and I got immediately this strong 80s gothic new wave vibe, combined with frontman Faris Badwan’s foggy and monotonous vocals. Haven’t we heard this before? Sure, the deadpan delivery à la Ian Curtis mixed with some Morrissey’s lament chilling the atmosphere
Vinny held down the beat on his rhythm guitar, Ed complemented Bucky and Bucky and Frank traded finger picked licks that swung from the rafters. Bucky has lost nothing, he is all tactile swiftness and deep smiles with Frank keeping an eye on him, waiting for a nod from the master to take over.
Blunstone and Argent really haven’t lost a step; Blunstone still sounds more like a rock star than a man pushing 70. Argent gave the original hits “She’s Not There” and “Tell Her No” a jazzier feel with his signature keyboard style. There were plenty of pleasures in the nineteen-song set.

I am not sure to understand why promoters and show bookers expect people to hang around after 1 am on a Sunday night, but all I can say is that the evening turned out to be a long night of music, but it was good music, so every one should have stayed and skipped the bedtime.
I’m pretty sure he can sing higher than I can. It was absolutely gorgeous and all of the effects he used, such as harmonizing or reverb, added so much more. I really didn’t know he was going to sing so much, but it was absolutely stunning.

OFF! played a long list of songs, but they are so short!! And, mid-show, a girl had already started to rip the huge setlist off the stage… ‘Ask, don’t take’ said Keith Morris while stepping on the large setlist duct taped on the floor… ‘Don’t be a republican,… or a democrat!’
Immediately, the tone of the evening was given, a very psychedelic ambiance with a lot of fuzziness, yes, dark and dense layers of fuzz wrapped around reverb and drone, filled up the place
The Mystic Braves’ music is not even close to punk, but whatever, people were showing their appreciation while having fun! The quintet effectively plays this awesome 60s-drenched surf-guitar music which sound like a trip to the south of the border revisited by the Doors
If their style was classic rock and blues, with a large dose of soul, or even a gospelic twist assured by the vocals of their back up singer, their attitude was a powerhouse. They seemed to be well aware they were playing the real thing
It was the craziest crowd I’d seen in a really long time. The passion of the fans mixed with the energy and the thumping background music they had, it was intense and I was glad I wasn’t in the crowd because I would’ve been terrified

The sound was flawless and even with everyone singing along, you could make out all the little details of the song. Seeing it live made me appreciate it even more, and I never wanted their set to end
Anyone singing along around me was on the verge of tears, and rightfully so. This band was making us feel something, and regardless of anything outside of the venue, we were all feeling it together.

I wasn’t sure if the acoustics in the venue were bad or the sound guy messed up, but I found that I was struggling to hear him. What I could make out was good, smooth and clear vocals that were worth struggling to hear. The man’s downfall was he was a bit arrogant.
The band put on a brilliant set, the perfect mix of old and new songs, and that was so nice to see because it showed that the band doesn’t just want to play all their new stuff. They played at least one song off of every album, and the diversity is what made this show stand out.
The Talking Heads are the first reference that comes to mind, Sean Guerin‘s vocals are very reminiscent of David Byrne’s monochord and unique style, but all this is also so James Murphy in the most LCD Soundsystem sense of the term, that you will end up dancing in the street
But like Jett spit out on “Smells Like Teen Spirit” rock is a denial and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is all about an admittance. It really is a squalid rabid horrible dingy thing. It really adds up to something that is nothing.

The True Groove Allstars – The Cutting Room – March 11th, 2014 – Lead by Tomas Doncker and featuring astounding turns by Charlie Funk and James Chance, it put the band and label right at the center of the map.
It was at Shea Stadium (no, not that Shea Stadium) in Brooklyn, a venue and studio that anybody who’s anybody frequents. What’s really cool is that because it’s a recording studio, the entire show will probably be available to re-live when they release it.

Like a homage to all bulimic people, the girl was sticking her fingers down her throat, while pulling her long hair backward and regurgitating the slimy green stuff all over the singer’s naked body,… and she actually switched to some black stuff when the two were provocatively riding the mechanical bull (pig?) on stage

They were the first band to play at Amoeba ever, and they were back on Tuesday night for the release of their new and 8th full-length album ‘Place in the Sun’. And they are very aware they have had their place in the sun.

And at Roseland, in a fine 70 minute dash through the album plus an excellent cover of Son Lux’s “Easy”, she began to feel comfortable with the craziness
The audience let its hair down and Doncker had them snapping their fingers and stomping their feet throughout the show. A master master of ceremonies, Tomas directed the full stage with a sure handedness that soon transcended to rock star cockiness. True Groove has arrived.
It was packed as hell- easily 100 people were squished into this little suburban home- and loud and the house felt like it had a pulse. Luckily, the cops didn’t come and we enjoyed our night of blaring music and dancing with reckless abandon in peace.
They played fast and it was exhilarating and energetic and raw. They have a real classic punk feel, which really appealed to me. They captured the feeling of 80s punk without being cheesy or cliche or lame.
