Is there something in the music world that can still shock us sexually? I mean we have seen a lot, Madonna has mimicking about the whole Kama Sutra on stage, Miley Cyrus got naked on a giant ball or an inflatable penis, S&M fan Rihanna hangs around totally naked at the CFDA Awards, Katy Perry’s boobs always explode with some milk or fireworks and Beyoncé, with her false dignified queen status, is basically always talking about sex. We have seen it all, nothing can shock us anymore right?
Well, not exactly, because Lady Gaga’s video for ‘Do What U Want’, with R Kelly and directed by Terry Richardson was scrapped, and judged too much like an ‘ad for rape’. TMZ posted 33 seconds of it, and I am not sure why they didn’t get the whole thing.
Despite R Kelly playing a weird sex-predator doctor and a naked Gaga masturbating in newspapers while being shot by Richardson, there’s nothing there really more shocking than in your usual shitty sexually-charged video. So may be the rest of the clip got wilder, may be it is was not exactly the contain of the video which was disturbing but Kelly and Richardson’s real lives? Six months ago, Lady Gaga addressed to her little monsters explaining why the video was late and basically blaming everybody else:
‘It is late because, just like with the Applause video unfortunately, I was given a week to plan and execute it. It is very devastating for someone like me, I devote every moment of my life to creating fantasies for you. All my my most successful videos were planned over a period of time when I was rested and my creativity was honored. Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result. Millions of dollars are not enough for some people. They want billions. Then they need trillions. I was not enough for some people. They wanted more. I am very grateful to the photographers and designers who have always stood by me to make sure my fans are never aware of the things that happen behind the scenes, but unfortunately after my surgery I was too sick, too tired, and too sad to control the damage on my own. My label was not aware that this was going on.’
Not only the video was late, but it never came out. However, sexual accusations against R Kelly (more exactly his sexual predation on teenage girls) were re-examined in December 2013 in this Village Voice article, and, very probably, have to do a lot with the video withdrawal. How did the guy get away with the accusations of two dozen women against him is beyond me, but he did and he is a disgusting human being, On the other hand, Richardson has also been the focus of many complaints from models who have said to have been sexually abused during photo shoots.
Two sex predators in the same video for a song called Do Want U Want (with my body)? May be that was a bit too much for everybody! One thing is sure though, a clip involving half-naked nurses, lobsters (?), twerking, nudity and an orgasm supervised by two sex predators, is not art as Lady Gaga tends to repeat, it’s just crappy soft porn.
