'The Other F Word' is a movie that documents the difficult transition between punk rocker status and fatherhood. I have only heard of the movie, and not seen it, but I got interested by just by watching the trailer.
‘Punk rock wasn’t meant to grow up but it did’ says Epitaph Records’ Brett Gurewitz. Yeah, these tattooed-anarchist-nihilist-anti-authoritarian punks became eventually fathers, and are now asking themselves what they should do when they suddenly find themselves in the position of the authority figure.
The movie shows Everclear’s Art Alexakis singing kid songs to his daughter in the car, Rancid’s heavily tattooed Lars Frederiksen pushing his daughter on a swing, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea playing piano with her daughter, but also many other punk dads like skater Tony Hawk, Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Tony Adolescent (The Adolescents), Ron Reyes (Black Flag), Fat Mike (NOFX), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) Pennywise’s Jim Lindberg, Mark Hoppus (Blink 182)
From rebellious heroes to good role models for their kids, they may reveal themselves to be not as unprepared for the role as they had thought.
