One of the best musical films of all time. I wonder if WSS would make it in 2012? I know for certain that those I have introduced this film to have loved it. Its the story of forbidden love with some of the most timeless music and social commentary.
Can you believe that 50 years ago there were gangs and they fought and killed over turf and girls? Yeah? Times haven't changed at all have they?
I can rememver playing the vinyl West Side Story over and over- flipping the record and skipping a couple songs that to this day I'm still not a fan of. "One Hand One Heart" still sucks, but out of all of those songs that's the only one that I dislike. I cant say that about any other album let alone with such longevity.
In honor of this half a century mark there will be a remastered Blu Ray boxed DVD with a documentary as well as other 'extra's'.
West Side Story won 10 Academy Awards, in 1961. Choreographed by Jerome Robbins and directed by Robert Wise this masterpiece could never be replicated. Set in 1950's New York City, dancing in the streets had a whole new meaning.
