I was recently writing about the numerous festivals around Los Angeles throughout the year, but it appears that, despite monster Coachella growing each year, and adolescent FYF fest following the steps of its elder, we are not even done with festivals.
The Los Angeles Times has seen new documents, revealing that Goldenvoice has new plans, even more ambitious plans than the ones already existing. The big promoter is planning to secure its desert home in Indio through 2030 (a real commitment), and to add up to 2 yearly music events! The proposal would even allow for up to 5 festivals per year, 3 in the spring and 2 in the fall, and in this later case, they are talking about a 99,000 capacity festival, and a 75,000 capacity for the other one! So we are talking about huge events once again – currently there is a maximum capacity of 95,000 people allowed during Coachella’s 2 spring weekends. Consequently, the size of the site would increase from 535 acres to 601 acres.
The threat of Goldenvoice leaving the site because of a city tax proposal, seems to be long gone, the giant promoter’s growth has truly no limit. Goldenvoice also organizes a country music festival, Stagecoach on the same site, a S.S. Coachella (a by-sea extension of the land festival) and it has co-produced the FYF Fest for the last two years,… and now this? When is this gonna stop?
