Week # 9
Recorded: The week belongs to the experimental weirdness yet strangely addictive Neneh Cherry and her Blank Project, recorded in five days of feverish productivity. Dierks Bentley wore off me, St. Vincent is very good but not great, and Schoolboy Q is the new same old same old but better.
Live: One of the most eagerly anticipated concerts of the year, George Strait came to New York, conquered everything before it, and rode off into the sunset. Tickets: The Morrissey show with Cliff, which didn’t sell out and the Hall Of Fame Induction. Which would aff cat Stevens to the mix.
Weather: The longest February clicked over but with temperatures in the teens and another snowstorm waiting to slap us around, somebody somewhere didn’t get the message.
Local: Bill de Blasio has started closing down Charter Schools and while my sympathies are with the schools in question, still I can see the Mayor’s point which boils down to giving public property to private enterprises. he might be doing it for the wrong reasons but it isn’t entirely irrational. The Mayor should have dealt with it by honoring existing contracts.
