Recordings: Britney earns top awards for her terrific new single “Work Bitch though somehwere close behind her comes albums by The Devil Wears Prada, who have invented ambient hardcore, Kevin Jenkins, who brings soul back to the proceedings, and Tom Odell, a credible new Elton John. Streaming the old Elton John and the new album is quite good.
Live: Solange’s 45 minute opening set was perfection and made me an immediate believer all over again, the very next day David Bronson brought The Long Lost to life and Shemekia Copeland killed it with humor and joy. Did I mention Solange was sizzling?
Sports: The Yanks lost 5 out of 6 in a must win stretch. As I write they aren’t out of it, but it feels like a matter of time. Thge Giants were dismantled by the Panthers of all teams, a 0 -38 disaster, and the Jets are 2 – 1 for the season. Go figure. The Islanders lost their first preseason game at Barclay Center. Guess it doesn’t matter where they are.
National: The world has forgotten about Syria so Assad has some breathing room.
Local: Apparently the death of stop and frisk has seen a spike on crime which is pretty damn fast, indeed, unbelievably fast.
