Motorhead Announces MotorBoat

Are cruises the new arenas? Kiss and Kid Rock have cruises as well as many others; Weezer understood there was an outlet and the Weezer Cruise has existed since 2011, even Coachella launched S. S. Coachella! And I thought cruises were a bit… tacky? Not anymore apparently, as Motörhead, yes that metal band fronted by the indestructible Lemmy Kilmister, has announced its own cruise, the MotorBoat!

It sounds like a joke but it’s not, there is already a Facebook page before any line up has even been announced! ‘Something is emerging from the mist’, says the page… ‘Motörhead’s MotörBoat sailing dates, ship info and presale details are drawing near!’ It is already advertised as ‘the loudest boat in the world’, and it is supposed to hit the coasts of Miami, Key West and Cozumel this fall. No stop in Cuba? Because this black and white logo definitively looks like a Pirates ship with a skim-the-seven-seas potential. According to Loudwire, it’s not even a premiere, as metal-by-the sea is apparently very common with festivals such as ‘70,000 Tons of Metal, ShipRocked, Barge to Hell, Monsters of Rock Cruise, Full Metal Cruise’.

But didn’t Lemmy Kilmister have some health problems? Motörhead cancelled the European tour that was due to start February 13th in Glasgow, and in January the band’s manager Todd Singerman made this statement regarding the frontman’s health:
‘Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon, Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel.’
Lemmy has diabetes? So he has to be careful to not load too much old rum and whiskey on that boat, cruises do not have a reputation for moderation! Anyway forget about your grandparents listening to Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’ resting in deck chairs, cruises are now for die-hard rockers, and I can hardly picture it.
