‘strange desire’ is something that came to me a few weeks ago when i was working on the last song i wrote for the bleachers album. the lyric is, “feeling like i never was young i followed a dream and a strange desire”. it was just something that came out in a scratch vocal take off the top of my head and i didn’t realize how important it was in that moment
“Benson Hedges” is gorgeous. It’s way better than the one on the album and I could barely contain myself when I heard it. I instantly fangirled and wanted to dance around. It’s so well done and stunning and the harmonies are a hundred times better like this.
I watched it a few times, and I am sure the tall adolescent girl (also featured on the above cover of the single) is Arrow, the daughter of photographer Autumn de Wilde and drummer Aaron Sperske,don’t ask me how I know this!
The energy was intense, with Nate Ruess the frontman a ball of energy with his incredible range and undeniable smile- it’s always humbling to see. He sounds even better live than recorded, especially with the higher notes. On the recordings of their tunes, Ruess usually hits the highs with his head voice, but live, he sang it in full chest
