She commanded the scene like a guy, sweeping the room with an impressive force, while being all over the place, unpredictable, creative and destructive
So we are getting many talented Australians lately. Fraser is indeed from Australia, just like his label mate Courtney Barnett, and this explains her cameo in the clip. Apparently, folk-country is well alive in Aussie country, and I can’t wait to sing along this chorus again.
With a handful of early releases, here is some before the early review reviews, two are retreads three are new reviews, all are pretty good without changing the world.
Courtney Barnett is the talk of the blogosphere right now and personally I can’t get enough of her last single ‘Pedestrian at Best’, as this is such a badass piece which aggresses all your senses in the most euphoric way,… Never since Dylan or Nick Cave (well, I had to mention him because she is Australian too) I had absorbed so many words per second.
I am not as big a fan as many, her lyric power is undeniable and her songs are driven exercises in alt folk rock, but she has one of those voices where everything sounds exactly the same… like Snoop Dogg. And already way too many vocal tics. Still… there is a reason people love her so much
Avant Gardener – Courtney Barnett – Quite a year for chick singer songwriter with, how you say, forth right attitudes. This has been around since last summer and she sounds like Violent Femmes meets Lou Reed -(I know, I know) – B+
