Three out of five late night shows are in repeats, the fourth hasn’t premiered yet and the fifth is on TBS. California Nights – Best Coast – My favorite of their three albums is a collection of LA inky blue mood music which merges with Bethany’s weed inspired drowsiness and builds into symphonic OKness.
The album barely peaks and never dips, unlike the first two albums weed isn’t an essential character in the stories; she seems a little less dependent on artificial paranoia. Instead, there’s a snapshot of a woman nearing her thirties and running in place in the California days and California nights as her youth slips by and that is as close to be precisely what Best Coast want it to be.
This looks difficult but it is a no brainer. Everything I’ve heard off the new Mumford And Sons and My Morning Jacket albums has been pretty damn second rate and both look like disasters. Sure I like Palma Violets, youngsters and with talent, and I like Todd, an olderster with talent. The Metz album will be a goodie, basically definitely and Boney James… wait a second BONEY JAMES??? The most anticipated is Best Coast

Direct Current is always a little frail on hip hop, which is why it isn’t the only reference we use, but otherwise it does show a singular sensibility an a good peek at the Spring of our warmth an happiness. Best Coast have made the move from the Beach Boys to the Dream Syndicate while remaining true to themselves. It is a real goodie with a sterling guitar break and a haunting, sadly sad (does anybody do sad quite as well nowadays?) vocal

Best Coast is quite huge in its hometown! I arrived too late to see the big line outside the store, but there was one, a big one turning around the block. It was a crowd of girls, lots of Latino girls, with gay guys or straight guys, all looking very young to me, having that same Silver-lake-hipster-in-the-know look.
