So Macaulay Culkin's The Pizza Underground Was Plagiarism?

What did start like an innocent joke has taken a nasty turn – although I presume these people are mostly joking, but who knows? A few weeks ago, we heard about Macaulay Culkin’s new band, The Pizza Underground, which basically recorded the Velvet Underground’s greatest hits with reworked lyrics all centered around a totally pizza theme, with cheesy titles such as  ‘Papa John Says’, ‘I’m Beginning to Eat the Slice’, ‘Pizza’, ‘I’m Waiting for Delivery Man’, ‘Cheese Days’, ‘Pizza Day’, ‘All the Pizza Parties’, ‘Pizza Gal’, ‘Take a Bite of the Wild Slice’. I thought it was totally funny in a very irreverent kind of way – Lou Reed just died a minute ago for god’s sake!! – but it was just a joke right?

Not for everyone, as Personal & The Pizzas didn’t take it very well. Yes it’s  a band with a Facebook page, even a release, ‘Raw Pie’, on cassettes on the totally appropriate label, Burger Records. They have been cooking rock’ n’ roll, punk rock and beyond with Pizza since 2010 and they feel totally violated by Culkin’s new move. Apparently the Home Alone Kid stole the idea? I am so disappointed. Of course you (and I) have never heard of these guys, but as soon as MJ’s little boyfriend does it, it’s all over the news? Not fair! According to emusic, this is the reaction of Personal & The Pizzas at the news:

‘Yeah……………..Here’s my fuggin’ review;

First we’re gonna kill em

THEN! we’re gonna sue em

DONT MESS WITH THE FUCKIN’ PIZZAS, PRICK.

I CAN REED MOTHERFUCKER
I CAN REED.’

Sure, I don’t think he is very serious, but a war has started! Looking at the photo which was just posted on their Facebook (showing the Culkin kid’s head shackled and stuffed with a pizza slice), let’s just say that Personal & The Pizzas took it very personally. But listening to their music, they are more on the punk slice than Culkin’s band. Listen to this Ramonesque ‘Pepperoni Eyes’.
