If it’s not a cruise its a ‘fest’. Bands are pairing up for mega shows more than ever and Slipknot has announced this years Knotfest location and dates and well- the West Coast gets the ‘fun’, Oct. 24-26 at San Bernardino’s San Manuel Amphitheatre and campgrounds is where the freaks will go for a celebration of metal and mayhem and ..schtick.
It is very difficult to take theatrical bands seriously- by theatrical I mean costumed characters. KISS may have started it but with bands like Knot or Insane Clown Posse, it becomes a joke- really how can we take anything serisouly when its Halloween every day. I do understand the need for it- it helps the awkward teenaged boy an escape from his video game jerking off world by hiding in the anonymity. It also allows him the opportunity to feel ‘cool’ for liking something so ‘crazy’. But to be direct- the music is impossible to appreciate when you have to get past the eyerolling get ups
But I am not 14 and I do not play COD so this obviously is not meant for me.
“Knotfest is a chance for Slipknot to bring the sensory-overload of a wild European festival – and now we’re coming for you, California,” the band’s M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan said. “Playing two different sets over two nights at one location is a new experience in the history of this band. This year’s Knotfests in the U.S. and Japan are going to be on another level.”
Slipknot is calling it an “apocalyptic underworld” with more than 20 carnival like attractions. Included are rides, a zip line across the festival grounds, drum circles, pillars of fire and The Slipknot Museum. Yeah…
But it’s 60 bands over two days an along with the Slip you get Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Anthrax and Danzig….and much much more (groan)
