Absolutely brilliant and genius rapper Watsky is on Warped Tour this year, and I couldn’t be more stoked about it. He recently announced that he’s releasing a new album on August 12th, called “All You Can Do”. I immediately went to watch the music video for “Whoa Whoa Whoa”- featuring none other than Bo Burnham. Two adorable and wonderful white male rappers (one more comedic that the other) in one video? Awesome.
This new track is heavily lyric-driven, and there’s a lot less focus on the background beats, which helps to accentuate George’s words and voice. It’s just stunning. He starts with, “I’m a phenomenon, and I gotta bring pain in The Octagon. When I wanna spit game at a soccer mom I get it quicker than the left lane in the Autobahn, fast. Like Ramadan, and I battle young padawans all the damn day.” It’s so quick that you could nearly miss it, but his words are fascinating. Also, how does he rap so dang fast?
This indie rapper/slam poet not only made the auditory experience of this video great, but visually, it’s really incredible. The editing and effects are impossibly smooth, with the replay affect making what are only a few shots in the grand scheme of things able to fill up the whole tune, and it’s still fun to watch. The way that they repeat split seconds messes with your head, keeping your eyes glued to the screen. It’s so well done and watching the video, it not only goes along with the song perfectly, but enhances it, too.
