Lil Duval, "Wat Dat Mouf Do" Video Reviewed

Music is centered around what will be popular on the radio; it’s entirely commercial and thrives off of what is big in the media, or hot on twitter, and every musician wants to start a trend.  Now I usually don’t care for mainstream rap music, however, I decided to do a little research because why not, and came across a song by someone called Lil Duval titled “Wat Dat Mouf Do”.  First off, is it just me or does it seem by the title of this song that the man didn’t even pass grade school?  I was unlucky enough to click on the official music video for this song, and was appalled.

Everyone points fingers at Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” for promoting rape culture, which it absolutely does and continues to do.  I believe,  though, that I am more disgusted by this video than I was Thicke’s mess.  First off, Lil Duval uses phallic and suggestive foods to try and prompt scantily clad women to put it in their mouths.  That was enough to turn me off completely and feel really uncomfortable.  About a minute in, I decided to scroll down and read the comments.  What I found gave me a bit of relief, but also left a bad taste in my mouth.
The song is a joke, completely unserious and in jest.  I went to go look up the lyrics to affirm this, and sure enough, it’s true.  I would post them directly into this post, however they’re extremely inappropriate and make me feel uneasy.  Regardless of whether or not this song is meant to be funny or go viral or what have you, that does not justify the poor taste.  There is absolutely nothing funny about sexual harassment, and I don’t care how many views you want to get on a video, there are simply lines you do not cross and if you do, you’re a scumbag.
