Jack White has shared a third song off his upcoming ‘Lazaretto’, and can I say that this one surprised me by its straightforward simplicity? The first two tracks, ‘Lazaretto‘ and the instrumental ‘High Ball Stepper’ were some badass semi-experimental shit, with crispy guitars, dangerously aggressive vocals,or amazing distortion freaking out, revealing the real Jack White still able to concoct surprising noises and unexpected detours… this instrumental was amazing right?
No such thing for ‘Just One Drink’ a blues rock that lacks something may be? It is just too Rolling Stones without Jagger’s swagger, or too Bob Seger with a generic country rock ‘n’ roll tone heard too many times… I mean Jack White is always insulting the Black Keys for ripping off his sound, but what does he think he is doing with this one? But some people on Twitter were wondering if the song wasn’t some shot at Meg White’s drinking, and this could make the song interesting.
It’s not a bad tune of course, just an okay song, however it sounds like a filler compared to ‘High Ball Stepper’. So I wonder how many ‘One More Drink’ and how many ‘High Ball Stepper’ there will be on this album. ‘Lazaretto’ will be released on June 10th via Third Man Records/Columbia, and as you may know, it will come in different formats including this now famous special Ultra LP, producing an hologram among other goodies, and may be Jack White’s ghost too? Unsurprisingly, the ex-White Stripes frontman just sold out two shows in Southern California, and I almost wanted to go before I realized the show at the Maya theater went on sale this morning. However, I am not 100% sure I was ready to drop 70 bucks on him, but I may regret it.
