Whoa baby.. as much as I hate Jack White is as much as I love him. Â The latest single “Just One Drink” knocked me over. Â I go in to every new tune ready to hate it- it’s just my nature. Â I hate just about everything and I have lots of reasons why. Â I get bored, I hate repetition, guitar solos bore me, odd production makes me nuts and add a broads voice and Im done.
So why on Earth am I loving this tune so much? Â It’s like George Thorogood , Elvis Presley and The Beatles dropped their DNA and this was created. Â An incredible Tennessee sound so much so that it sounds like something out of Sun- but it’s Third Man. Â Nashvile and Memphis are worlds apart but this ditty here is pure Memphis magic.
I throw in the Beatles for the nearly “waHooo’ sing a long factor. Â Its really fresh sounding in this context but very Beatle rip off. Â The harmonies work fabulously, but don’t they always when your harmonize with yourself? Â As for the girl.. the girl does her job adding a lovely almost rockabilly element. Â Ya dig?
With wailing piano (yes thats possible) the chopping guitar and fantastic bass work.. Im dying. Again, wanting to hate it and being so incredibly impressed is ridiculous. Â This song now officially goes on constant loop for me.
Oh and the Thorogood is only cuz it’s booze related and would play well as a bar tune. What the hell Jack White how come you’re so damn cool all the time?
Jacks new album, Lazaretto will be released June 9th on Third Man Records / XL Recordings and Im totally stoked for it.
