I've hated on Hot Hot Heat lots and lots. In rock nyc and speaking with other people… and today I regret most of what I said.
For instance, tI hated hard on he video for "No Applause Allowed" and well its rather lame.. visually: Bloody boys healing with love black and white artsy fun BUT close your eyes and listen to the song and blammo.. it's old Strokes.
Hot Hot Heat have been around far too long to be considered 'new' but if you've not heard them before they're new to you. This particular song doesn't seem to be on any album so perhaps its a B side?
Regardless, its a gorgeous song and the tone of the lyrics is beautiful. Musically simplistic but that's all it needs.
I'm impressed.
The Strokes were always a very cleaned up rich boy alt rock, Hot Hot Heat is the grittier less rich daddy element. Dirtier and hungrier they have the swagger without the cologne.
Have a look at this song, sounds silly so don't. As I mentioned the video is a bit contrived. You can watch it and discuss it over lattte' though, what exactly does it mean? Friends heal the pains of life?
Doesn't matter, its a cool song. Cool filling the gap of where The Strokes went luke warm
Got enough temperature nods?
Hot Hot Heat… get it?
