You know why time flies when you run a music website? Because you are always planning three months in advance and so, already, it is time to thank about CMJ’s October time of music and mayhem, thousands of bands in 100s of venues, and passes to get you through.
For years I had no interest in it but last year Helen Bach pushed me to represent and so I did and I found it a very interesting way to experience music. It is like a real Festival but New York style, it is like the NYU campus set to music.
Anyway, here I go again (I hope, press credentials are not confirmed yet, but Big Picture have been pretty good to us in the past), I’m already interested in catching some of these names: Cold War Kids, The Horrors, The Wytches, a couple of others. Though half the fun is discovery.
Anyway, here is the press release:
New York – August 28, 2014 – CMJ is thrilled to announce the first round of performing artists for the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon. Taking place in New York City on October 21-25, this year’s exciting lineup includes over one thousand buzzworthy new acts and emerging talent. The vast array of performers will no doubt make next year’s headlines.
This year’s lineup includes:
The Kills, Slowdive, Bombay Bicycle Club, Gerard Way, Cold War Kids, Courtney Barnett, RAC, San Fermin, The Horrors, Dusky, Matthew Dear, Moon Duo, Twin Peaks, Reigning Sound, Pro Era, White Fence, Sam Roberts Band, D.D Dumbo, Luluc, Protomartyr, MONEY, Tom Vek, Kate Boy, Cathedrals, The Wytches, Bear’s Den
Attendees this year will also share in the triumphant return of many past CMJ performers. A year after making her US debut at CMJ 2013, Melbourne’s Courtney Barnett will return to the CMJ stage. This year’s docket include The Horrors, who first played CMJ in 2006, and, following his breakout CMJ appearance in 2005, Tom Vek. Gerard Way will make a solo appearance after first playing with My Chemical Romance in 2003. We are also pleased to welcome back to CMJ indie-folk duo Luluc, whose Sub Pop debut Passerby was a recent CMJ chart-topper.
Hundreds of additional artists performing at this year’s marathon will be announced in the coming weeks. For further details and updates, stay tuned to http://www.cmj.com/marathon.
