Chris Andrews "Yesterday Man", Video Review

thanks for the tunes Moz
thanks for the tunes Moz

Morrissey no longer tortures his fans with the banshee wailing of wanna be Siouxie Sioux Kristeen Young but he still gives us some cool video snippets prior to taking stage.  Tossed in there this go round was a absolutely stunning tune from a British artist by the name of Chris Andrews.

Although the tune came out in 1965 this video is from 1967 and may well be one of the most incredibly awkward videos of all time.  But honestly this just adds to the magic of the tune.  So first off THANK YOU Mozzah for introducing me to a great artist!

“Yesterday Man” sounds like an odd combination of Paul Anka and Frankie Valley, maybe just a dash of Bobby Vinton.  You get it that late 60s falsetto cry for girls to love them crew.  So listen to this tune and truly appreciate its perfection but in this video.. get a load of the teenagers surrounding the artist.

There is nearly a shove match at about  1:49 seriously they should have at least told these kids to sway instead of looking like they’re grouped up in gym being picked for teams for dodge ball. I absolutely love this. From the noticeable discomfort to the grainy quality having Moz put up a song like this to open up his set gives true insight to the man he is.  Bit of a nostalgia fan?  Suppose at a certain age we all are but this set amongst The Ramones, New York Dolls, and T-Rexs adds a  delightful new layer to the cake that is Morrissey.

Chris Andres is going to get a whole lot of new fans after this bit makes a go round.  Still alive and kickin’ at age 71 this Rumsford England pop-mans material can also be found on Spotify.  This video- and this artist may be in the top five greatest things about the Boston Opera House gig.

  1. Chris Andrews wrote many of the songs for Sandie Shaw, who Morrissey adored back in his Smiths days. I get the feeling that Sandie is singing backing vocals on this tune.

Too bad Moz didn’t show this performance by Andrews as it is even more awkward: https://youtu.be/W6N3o4TDYsI
