Elvis Presley Back On The Big Screen

A hunka boring love
A hunka boring love

Ever wonder why there have been so few big screen presentations of Elvis Presley, the King of rock and roll? I mean, he should be a natural right? But except for a coupla TV biopics (cmon down Kurt Russel) , there really isn’t any. Where is the Elvis “I Walk The Line”? Not there and yet what a story it would be… maybe.

Maybe the promise is never be fulfilled because how can you play Elvis without descending into impersonation, all night long it’ll be “thank you very much, thank you very much…” All sideburns and dyed hair. Still, nobody has much tried. All I call think of was that Presley as a boy in Memphis TV show, sort of “Smallville” – Elvis as Superboy.

But where are all the movies? What is everyone waiting for? Lisa Marie Presley won’t give the rights to any of hi songs. She is scared of some sort of warts and all decline and fall movie and doesn’t want his image tarnished (and boy will they tarnish it) . So yeah, no “Hound Dog” for you.

So here comes news that Lisa Marie (46 years old -gasp!) is in negotiations to give the rights to some of Elvis songs which treat hi with respect. Stories about his faith in God -that sort of stuff. It sounds kind of scary right. I read there are like three movies in the works at the moment.

I’d like to write a treatment myself, about this teenage boy who discovers he is the reincarnation of Elvis, it all ends up, as these things tend to, with the Supreme Court making a judgement on whether he is really Elvis. Unfortunately, the reincarnated is tone deaf and looks nothing like EP (actually, the boy looks a lot like Ed Sheeran) and the ending isn’t very happy but it isn’t very sad. Much like the rest of us, reincarnated walks away from who he was and embraces who he is.
