Let’s face it- the model/rock star pairing has been a mystery since forever. How on Earth did Paulina Porzikova end up with gangling Rick Ocasek? They say that opposites attract but holy hell, its got to be more than that. But go to any rock show and there is a gorgeous girl gushing over the homeliest man with a guitar- its absolutely amazing.
Well someone took this and ran with it in search of answers. Leave it to the Brits to sort this one.
Good folks from the University of Sussex spoke with nearly 1,500 fertile women, with an average age of 28. They made sure to not use any women whose answers may be affected via breastfeeding, pregnancy or use of hormonal contraception. What that means I have no idea but it’s pretty funny to suggest that women every woman every day is ruled by hormonal flux.
The report says that they “were asked whether they would prefer the composer of one simple melody, or a second more complex piece. In each case they were asked whether they would prefer the composer as a short-term sexual partner, or a longer-term partner in a committed relationship. The results showed that women only preferred composers of more complex music as short-term sexual partners when the risk of conception was at its highest.”
“The ability to create complex music could be indicative of advanced cognitive abilities,” wrote Dr. Benjamin Charlton in the report. “Consequently, women may acquire genetic benefits for offspring by selecting musicians able to create more complex music as sexual partners.
I would buy in to this more if they were really composing- rather than shouting in t a mic or strummin’. But hey I suppose its a start. Is it the glamorous life? Look at Shannon Tweed and Gene Simmons, hell look at Van Morrison and his wife WHAT THE HELL?! Opposites attract but c’mon there is something unworldly about this pairing.
