Cat In The City, Welcome Yusuf Islam!

He's Here! He's Here!
He’s Here! He’s Here!

It’s not so rare that a legend touches down in New York City.  It’s more the norm than not.  Seems New York is the one place people would be least star struck.

That is unless that legend is Cat Stevens himself.  I feel disrespectful calling him Cat Stevens. Yusuf as he is now known is in town to relieve his spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and after his long near dissertation in Rolling Stone magazine its an event that is of epic proportion.  Yusufs piece in the magazine crosses all lines and is so eloquently written its hard to think this the guy who wrote so many classic anthems.

I may not be a fan of Rolling Stone or the Hall of Fame but when someone I actually admire is being recognized, I cant help but feel a bit of excitement.  Songs that shaped my youth and adolescence and to this day inspire my actions, Cat Stevens is emblazoned in my soul and Yusuf is here to accept his accolades.

Aside from his showing at Barclay Center at the big award show he can be seen on late night television with our hero Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday.  What a hoot that one is.  I cant even paint an idea of how that one will go but considering what I know of Yusufs sense of humor that coupled withe Fallon should be pretty engaging.  Granted not like a Timberlake but genuine laughter is involved.

So will he perform?  He did that bit of Peace Train in Washington awhile back, hes got tons of material to chose from…but will he perform at the Barclay Center or Fallon? I’m thinking yes.  I’m hoping yes. So is Iman who will be at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.  It will also be broadcast on HBO… that being said I just cancelled HBO last week before I knew this…woe is me.

Check out this amazing offering from 2007.  Talk about a voice that has not lost a bit of its distinction. Simply gorgeous.
