Screaming Females To Release Live Album Recorded By Steve Albini

What attracted me to punk rock when it first exploded was that it was unpredictable and that no two bands had very much in common. Each band committed itself to a unique set of ideas, and it didn’t matter what other bands were doing or what the audience might expect. Screaming Females are that same kind of wide-open punk rock, from before it condensed into a style and every band had to be taken on its own terms. They are a great band and I hope they keep going forever.

Hard to deny, right? I’ve seen Screaming Female loads of times and have never seen em approaching naff; the band is always always on. Great shredder lead guitarist (the female in the title band name) great Nirvana influenced heavy handed drummer, great bassist, internal combustion engine, what’s not to like?

Well… I didn’t see that Steve Albini’s clout added much to Ugly –Steve worked with Cloud Nothing in 2012 as well and to much better effect. It is not that anything was subtracted from the album, but still, as far as brute force is concerned I’d still go with Power Move.

But now comes some exciting news:

At last! A live Screaming Females record! Recorded over two nights in Chicago by Steve Albini

“Screaming Females have been hailed as one of the best live bands and Marissa Paternoster has been praised as one of the best guitar players of all time. This live record makes the case for both of these accolades in a way that no studio album ever could.  We cannot wait to share this thing with you in full, but to tide you over listen to them doing “Lights Out” below.

We also want to make this thing as special as possible for supporters of the band, and so we have 500 copies on clear vinyl for mail-order which as of writing this email are almost gone!  Finally, people who pre-order on iTunes will get an immediate download of “Lights Out.””

This might well be the album we’ve been waiting for… If you’ve never seen em live you are really in for a treat.

Dropping April 18 from Don Giovanni Records.
