ONE HUNDRED BUCKS!
No wonder I am getting barraged by emails from MSG trying to move tickets to Buble’s eagerly awaited gig this July 7th, when the cheapest ticket is… $100. Plus service fees. Figure a buck 20 for a nosebleed.
What the hell is that?
Back in the day, say ten years ago, you could get a nosebleed for $25 and from there they upped the price to $40 and recently it has been around the $65 range. All wayy expensive, but thatis nyc Arena rates. But now? $120 is pushing it and when an act as popular as Buble is having problems filling the place he is either not as popular, and I guess he has lost a little of his popularitybut not enouh, or he is pricing himself out of the game and as far as I am concerned $120 is pricing yourself right out of the mainstream. It is absolutely ridiculous to charge those kind of prices to see a performer from that far awar. Maybe mid-section you say OK, but is that the best you can do for fans of yours who are, in fact, broke.
Buble ain’t that much but even so he is probably the best at what he does, crossover cabaret. I’ve seen him on stage a couple of times and was quite impressed though not by singing but by his demeanor. The man is a lot of fun and he is a good mainstream pop starer charmer with a wide smile and just enough humility in his step.
But he isn’t worth a hundred bucks.
And by pricing himself out of the game, by failing to sell out MSG, he loses his cachet, his goodwill. He feels too greedy and inexcusable as though nothing is ever enough.
