Auction time! No this time John Lennons tooth is not up for bids but rather his art. Oh how we love a good auction. An opportunity to own something based purely on how much we are willing to shell out for the honor.
When you are a legend like John Lennon people are willing to sell a kidney to own a piece of you and so it goes as poshy auction house Sotheby dusts off original art, puts it on an easel and waits for the offers to roll in. There is no question that the value of these offerings will far be inflated by super fans and investors ready to exploit.
Among the items in the auction is a manuscript from 1965 called “The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield,” which is expected to sell for $40,000 to $60,000. Another is an illustration of a guitar player with four eyes, which Lennon created in 1964 or 1965. It has a pre-sale estimate of $15,000 to $25,000.
Manuscripts and art acquired by Tom Maschler who squirreled this stuff since the 60’s when “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works.” were written. Well played waiting until the 50th anniversary of the Beatles landing in the US for that infamous Ed Sullivan show.
The auction will begin June 4th in New York. Might I suggest you start saving now? Visit Sothebys website for details and criteria unfortunately their site seized up my computer twice- so click at your own risk. Maybe I’m just not swanky enough to gain admittance.
