Why I Hate David Guetta

Why is David Guetta considered as the coolest thing around in America? I really don’t get it! Over the weekend the DJ and producer became the first music industry guy to have his handprints put into cement in front of the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood!

It is actually a new program, which will immortalize music stars’ handprints in cement and put them on the wall of the renovated Grauman’s Ballroom, the new name of the lobby of the Chinese 6 complex on the 3rd floor of the theater. Not only Guetta was the first DJ to receive this honor, but he seems to be one of the rare DJs who will ever receive it, as the other candidates will be music stars,… I mean, writers and performers of real music.

On Saturday, Guetta performed (in fact he must have just spun some CDs as usual) in front of 800 people packed in this new lobby, and transformed for the occasion into ‘the full Vegas nightclub experience – complete with LED light riggings, VIP tables with bottle service, elevated platforms with scantily-clad dancers, and roided-out bouncers just trying to keep a lid on all the mischief’, according to the LA Weekly. He dropped a lot of ‘I’m David Guetta, bitch’ while being obviously the center of attention of the photographers.

I could not care less about what he played on Saturday, I am not interested by this sort of uni-note songs, the monotonous unimaginative repetitive house-techno he calls music, his ultra-popular soup of Black-Eyes-Peas-Niki-Minaj-Usher’s rehashed hits.

And when you know he said during his Saturday night concert, ‘It's just nice to play to a smaller crowd tonight’, you just want to smash him in the face, because for his supra-ego, 800 people was a small crowd! So self-serving and pompous!

I know he was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, I know his single ‘Without You’ has been No.1 for two weeks, I know there is the new documentary ‘Nothing but the beat’ about his career, and I still don’t get it! He was a French brand, he is now an international brand which uses the same recipe over and over, and it works, obviously. But just look at any fast food restaurant, it’s cheap and mass produced, it looks all shiny from the outside, but it can rapidly make you sick.
