Watch Marilyn Manson's New Video For ‘Deep Six'

Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson had his time in the 90s but are there still people excited by the release of one of his videos, songs, or albums? I mean his fans must have been a bit distracted as he got into painting, acting on TV shows, appearing in video games, marketing absinthe… Nevertheless he goes on, and he is about to release a new album ‘The Pale Emperor’ on January 19th, do a worldwide tour in January to support it and he has just dropped a new video for the single  ‘Deep Six’, a curious CGI-animated clip,… and honestly the whole thing looks kinda ridiculous.

First of all the music sounds more like a slightly heavier version of a Foo Fighters song than something coming from the Antichrist Manson, except may be it has more raucous vocals. Manson has lightened up over the years! Then the animation is totally not working for me: it’s not even scary or confusing enough or perverse as a Manson video should be! This CGI tube swallowing a woman as an anaconda or a slinky toy would do, may be his new idea of sexual threat, but honestly, we got used to much more danger, sex orgies and sadistic visions with Manson… The gothic star even wears a very fashionable tweed coat as if he was posing for a Neiman Marcus’ new winter ad! The only interesting idea is at minute 3, when you see Manson blowing himself as a dick in an infinity mirror optic illusion. The rest is just is so tame and lame.

Bart Hess, who directed the video, writes on his website that he ‘explores several fields combining material studies, animation and photography in a surrealist manner’…with a ‘fascination for the human body and the manipulation of it’. He has also worked for Lady Gaga, which may say a lot about where Manson is going.

Now it’s up to you to figure out what this giant black snake is, a sexual object? a condom? This is just too safe for a Marilyn Manson video, and I even preferred him as a rooftop sniper in this mysterious Lana Del Rey rape clip.
