FIDLAR has a fun video for a new song that they may have played last time i saw them at the Regent theater. It’s slightly different and at the same time very similar to what they have always been doing: having fun, getting drunk and party! Well the song is called ’40oz on Repeat’, so what else would you expect?
The video is a crazy one and since there is a trend for parodies these days, FIDLAR has done the mother of all parodies with their brand of beer humor. So let;s see if you are able to recognize everyone in this clip? The Beastie Boys, Missy Elliot, Britney Spears, Jamiroquai, w=Weezer…but they made it easy for us and the list of all the famous videos they have used to make this new one is given at the beginning, and that’s a good thing because some had escaped me! Plus, there is an obvious DIY look in this clip, it looks like the cardboard cutouts of themselves they often use on stage, it’s cheap like the beer they drink, but its very cool,,, you will recognize:
0:24 Sugar Ray – Fly
0:39 Suicidal Tendencies – Institutionalized
0:55 Missy Elliot – Supa Dupa Fly
1:05 Devo – Jocko Homo
1:21 Weezer – Sweater Song
1:35 Eminem – Real Slim Shady
1:43 Beastie Boys – Fight For Your Right
1:57 Jamiroquai – Virtual Insanity
2:13 Hives – Walk Idiot Walk
2:29 Oasis – Wonderwall
2:40 Soundgarden – Blak Hole Sun
2:47 Korn – Freak on a Leash
2:57 Britney Spears – Hit Me Baby
3:09 George Michael – Faith
3:31 Green Day – Good Riddance
What is that? An homage or a mockery? Frontman Zach Carper has explained: ‘In the late 90s and early 2000s, music videos were such a huge deal. We decided that instead of making one overly slick music video, we would nod to 15 of our favorite music videos that we grew up with. Everyone in the band threw in their ideas.’
They have slowed down a bit with that song and I honestly think it lacks a bit of their original punk skate fury and wild energy, but it’s deliciously cartoonish and poppy. Following their self-titled debut released in 2013, this lead single announces FIDLAR’s big return with a sophomore album, simply named ‘Too’, due on September 4th via Wichita and Mom + Pop. You can already pre-order packages on the band’s website, or you may wait a bit because FIDLAR is victim of their success: ‘well… because you guys are so awesome, our merch server crashed. sorry not sorry. it’ll be back up and running in no time!’ they wrote on their Facebook page on Tuesday,… when I think about their humble beginning at the Echo!
