The Who Hits Vinyl

Who Are They?

Who Are They?

My buddy, rock nyc writer Robert Ross posted this story on his Facebook wall and while my own interest in vinyl is non existent at this time of my life (it took me decades to amass 5,000 albums or so till the start of the 1990s, they took up a room in my apartment, and suddenly they became obsolete. I’m buggered if I’ll do that again), my interest in the High Numbers is still pretty high.

I saw em three times on their last tour and loved one of them, but since this is young man’s weather, more power to em any way.

Apparently (read below), there is a big Hyde Park gig on June 26th. Featuring the uber-Who fan Paul Weller. I wouldn’t go on a bet (unless you can get close, it makes MSG look like Pianos) BUT I will be at the Barclay Center gig.

One more thing, and not to be difficult, why is THE WHO HITS 50 considered an official release and Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy isn’t?

Here is the Who Hit Vinyl info:

• All the Band’s Studio Albums plus THE WHO HITS 50! released on 180gm Vinyl.

• The Brunswick 7″ Singles Box Set

• Record Store Day Exclusive Blue Vinyl 7″ BE LUCKY

There is no more significant a milestone in Rock Music than the 50th Anniversary. Through the decades, THE WHO redefined rock music as we know it and their influence continues in all areas of popular culture to this day.

THE WHO HITS 50! continues throughout all of 2015 with very special re-releases throughout the year and a huge celebratory show in Hyde Park.

To kick start 2015, March 23 sees all of the band’s 11 studio albums released on vinyl alongside a double vinyl version of their ultimate hits package The Who Hits 50;

MY GENERATION (1965), A QUICK ONE (1966), THE WHO SELL OUT (1967), TOMMY (double) (1969), WHO’S NEXT (1971), QUADROPHENIA (double) (1973), THE WHO BY NUMBERS (1975), WHO ARE YOU (1978), FACE DANCES (1981), IT’S HARD (1982), ENDLESS WIRE (double) (2006) and THE WHO HITS 50! (double) (2014).

All of the albums have been re-mastered in 24/96 format and are pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl. Each album will also have its original issue artwork including:
TOMMY Original six-panel fold out / 12-page colour 11″ x 11″ booklet and LP sides pressed as original 1969 vinyl.
THE WHO SELL OUT Includes a replica of the original 20″ x 30″ poster as an insert.
QUADROPHENIA Gatefold sleeve with original 44-page booklet.
FACE DANCES Includes a replica of the 24″ x 24″ poster of the album cover as an insert.

On April 6 the first in a series of 7” singles box sets is released covering their first seven singles as The Who as well as their one and only 7” as The High Numbers.

THE BRUNSWICK SINGLES BOX 1965 – 1966 is Volume One of a four-part set of classic Who British singles by labels (Brunswick, Reaction, Track and Polydor). Containing seven 7” singles from the start of the band’s career pressed on heavyweight vinyl with paper sleeves (reproducing the period graphics front and back with die-cut centre holes). The singles are housed in a rigid ‘lid-and-tray’ outer box and features a 7” sized colour booklet with liner notes about each release by Who biographer Mark Blake.

Barclaycard Presents British Summertime
As one of the greatest live bands of all time, The Who will take to the Great Oak Stage in London’s iconic Hyde Park on Friday 26 June for Barclaycard Presents British Summertime with very special guests Paul Weller, Kaiser Chiefs and Johnny Marr plus others to be announced. The all-day bill will feature many more brilliant acts that owe an artistic debt to one of the most influential of all British bands.
