Weight Of Love – The Black Keys – This is a spectacularly terrible song to lead off last year’s disastrous divorce album Turn Blue, an album which effectively derailed their career. Slow, depressing, atmospheric and the very definition of a pointless downer, Dan has suffered for his art, now it’s our turn – D+
Black Sun – Death Cab For cuties – Did I ever like these guys? Perhaps, but they were so popular I was giving em the benefit of the doubt. A boring show Radio City Music Hall put an end to that and even if it hadn’t, this turgid plodder would – D+
Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) – AWOLNATION – A very clever rock popper with a catchy chorus and a slippery beat which morphs on the chorus (did I tell you it was a catchy one?) – B+
Shots – Imagine Dragons – This is one of the most overplayed bands in the world, and if it hits you can imagine it being a major annoyance, but till then the bets are huge and the melody catchy without being abusive – B+
Planes – Jeremih, J. Cole – B – Better than anything on J. Cole’s last album, this is an ddictive hip hop as written – B+
Nothing Really Matters – Mr. Probz – One hit wonder, this is a bad ballad – C-
Fourfiveseconds – Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney – Dunno what gives with West, Alyson dubbed it a Jack Johnson wannabe and while I wouldn’t go that far I do see what she means. It’s a sweet nothing, pretty but bland. By West’s standards a major dog… and I still like it. Rihanna sounds great – B+
