These old geezers crack me up. I adore Pete Townshend his personality has always been so dynamic and at age it hasn’t changed at all. Solo or with the band The Who he has always been a spunky bastard and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Here in a press conference announcing the bands 5oth Anniversary tour the artists took to calling Guardian UK online readers ‘cunts’, and having a pretty good laugh about it.
When asked by a Guardian journalist if we could expect any new material Pete commented ‘Can I comment on that, can I comment, like the c**ts that comment on the Guardian online?’.
‘I’ve had to delete my piece now because of it. I don’t care what The Who do. That Pete Townshend is he Islamic, Jesus, the comments.’
I’ts quite true. Online forum comments are a trolls best friend. Give someone a keyboard and anonymity and its just a recipe for a nightmare of nonsense. Three cheers for Pete for calling that out.
The best thing to come of the press conference is this awesome four tune acoustic set. Why the hell aren’t they touring acoustic? Save the strain and the backing tracks, the pops can sit on stools and relax and they sound fabulous. Just a thought but it seems to me a much better way to celebrate their history than trying to pretend your 20 when you’re 70.
