The Sex Pistols wouldn’t have made a blip in the ocean if they were to arrive in 2014. No one really gives a shit about that sorta thing and well there is too much other real scandal to make anything they have done scandalous at all.
In 1980 the ‘Great Rock and Roll Swindle” was released as a quasi documentary of sorts, a nice rise and fall so to speak. So oddly veiled in midgets and small boobs that its hard to follow the story line. If you don’t already know the rise and fall of the band forget learning it here. Paul Cook is oddly placed but well recorded as a private dic. and Malcom McLaren shows his junk in the bathtub with a midget. Yeah.
Similar to the Rude Boy the sound is shit. For bands you’d think all the ‘remaster’ would amp up the ear quality but it aint happening in either film. What is nice is to see these bands in ‘their day’. Its nostalgia at its finest and you cant help but be glad it’s the past.
What did I learn from this film? Sex organs were tiny in the 70’s. I have never seen smaller boobs on topless chicks and Sid Vicious seems to have no penis at all. Paul Cook was most def the ‘cute one’ and Sid was adorable before his skin went to hell and he started etching himself with bottles.
There is very little Johnny Rotten in this. Filmed in 1978 he had already dismissed the entire project so that makes it even sadder. For the record he looked fabulously healthy for brief time- Rotten and Vicious both hit the skids pretty quick losing the clear faced boy look in record time. There’s the harsh reality.

“A rather incoherent post-breakup Sex Pistols “documentary”, told from the point of view of Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, whose (arguable) position is that the Sex Pistols in particular and punk rock in general were an elaborate scam perpetrated by him in order to make “a million pounds.” Silly and hard to follow at times, but worth seeing for some excellent Pistols concert footage, some wickedly amusing animated sequences, and Sid Vicious’ eerily prophetic performance of “My Way.” ”
Yup! That’s it in a nutshell and honestly its sorta sad. It is so difficult to ‘shock’ anymore in entertainment that we consider chicks like Miley Cyrus controversial. Gimme a break and better yet give her one. When bands used to spit or puke on you, or better yet piss and defecate on you (thanks GG Alin!) sticking your tongue out and rubbing your ass on Robin Thick is child’s play.
Oh by the way the Soo Catwoman isn’t even Soo. Its Judy Croll at age 14 getting nakie and so that explains her lack of boob. Soo Catwoman was 22 at the time, fabulously cool and amazingly beautiful but with nothing to do with the film- so there’s your fun factoid. Here’s Soo’s blog post- she’s awesome
