Sessions for the new Pink Floyd album

‘Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called “The Endless River”. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.’ This simple tweet by Polly Samson on July 5th put Twitter on fire for a good reason. What? A new Pink Floyd album? responded most of the fans ,who retweeted the message thousands of times.

Samson is David Gilmour’s wife but also the author of many books as well as the co-author of the lyrics of Pink Floyd’s 1994 album ‘The Division Bell’. So, unless Samson’s account was hacked, she knows what she is talking about and this is solid news, this fall, we will get the first Pink Floyd album since 1994, with keyboardist Rick Wright, who died of cancer in 2008.

There are many ways to announce the release of a new album these days, some artists don’t even announce it anywhere and drop it overnight on iTunes, but the Twitter method was not Pink Floyd’s management’s first choice as they were not thrilled about the way she broke the news.

However, this was also confirmed by Durga McBroom-Hudson, Pink Floyd’s longtime backup singer, as she posted the above photo with the comment: ‘During a session recording the NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM!! — with Fabio Stanisci and Jupiter Telling in Hove, United Kingdom.

The picture was originally posted in May on Samson’s Instagram but it was assumed at the time it was coming from sessions for Gilmour’s upcoming solo album.

One last thing, Durga confirmed that Roger Waters was not involved in the making of this album, leading some fans to declare that it is not really a Pink Floyd album. At the end, do we need another Pink Floyd album? Sure most fans are excited, it is a musical important event, but Pink Floyd, as a band, ceased to exist, oh about 30 years?
