The Art of Elysium Announces Big Event Curated By Spike Jonze, Karen O, Alex Ebert, Beck, Cat Power….

This seems to be a very cool event! The Art of Elysium is a charity ‘dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children’ and it describes its mission as an intersection between contemporary art and philanthropy, by the way of volunteer artists visiting hospitalized children, while giving them the opportunity to express themselves through painting, drawing, or photography.

Genesis, their fundraising event, is a showcase of emerging Los Angeles talent, and according to the LA Weekly, this year the event promises to be very interesting. First of all, the event will take place on September 5th at the brand newly renovated (and superb) Theater at Ace Hotel Downtown LA, secondly, the emerging artists will be picked by a totally awesome list of curators,… they seem to be a dream team I would have personally chosen to be honest: Spike Jonze, Karen O, Alex Ebert, Beck Cat Power, Shepard Fairey, Santigold and Jakob Dylan… isn’t it a great list?

Hip LA radio KCRW and Goldenvoice are also on board, and Art of Elysium founder Jennifer Howell had this to say about the event ‘Moving Genesis to downtown and The Theatre at Ace Hotel allows us to deliver on our mission of supporting emerging artists to the largest possible audience’.

Plus it’s gonna be a small feast with a live graffiti artist outside the hotel, food vendors, and live music by SoKo, Rodrigo Amarante, The Garden, Nite Jewel, Mary Ocher, Moses Sumney, Nico Turner, Vorhees, Aaron Embry, and The Donnies and The Amys and more… The Weekly also reports about a ‘virtual reality Beck concert video’  created by Chris Milk, and an interactive voting process for guests to vote for their favorite performers.

Tickets will be sold on Ticketmaster on Saturday July 26th and, naturally, it is expensive since the proceeds will benefit The Art of Elysium.
