That Was The Week Of November 25th, 2013, That Was

Jon Hendricks

Live: He only performed two songs but the great vocalese Jon Hendricks, at the age of 92, came onto Van Morrison’s stage at the Theater At Madison Square Garden, and stole the show from under his nose. To hear Hendricks scat is to hear life breathing. A masterpiece.

Recorded: One Direction seem to have side stepped the third album doldrums though at nearly an hour in length it was way way way too long: does the term quality control mean nothing any more? Tom Stoppard’s Darkside was nearly an hour in length as well, but at least it had a plot.

National: Ah yes, the second term blues. Around about now I bet the President is cursing the day he got re-elected. Obama is an  ideologue who doesn’t want war so much he will actually discuss peace with his enemies. Scary stuff, right? In Detroit Bootsey X, a local legendary rocker, dies, and for a lot of people the world comes to an end.

Local: Four day weekend and Rough Trade open a store n Brooklyn.

Sports: Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets: turkeys turkeys everywhere.
