Recorded – The surprise release of Beyonce couldn’t have been better timed, new albums have slowed to a crawl and the only knock out punch last week was Claptons ’74 – ’75. The new Beyonce may be as great as 4, certainly it is the best r&b album of the year.
Live – Neither Vampire Weekend nor Jingle Ball was all that, while I hear time after time how other people which they had the chance to check out all the concerts I do, sometimes it is just a long hard slog, like the first hour of Jingle Ball this year. December hasn’t been a good month this year, 2012 was much better.
International – In what may be the strangest story of the year, a sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela wasn’t actually signing at all. Apparently he wasn’t hallucinating angels who also don’t know sign language.
National: In related news, Obama got in trouble for flirting with the Prime Minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt, to which the Obama’s only correct response to his wife and to the world should’ve been “go fuck yourself”.
Local: The worst SNL ever followed on the feet of a freeze out in the city.
Sports: The Knicks are better but let’s hope that is good enough. Giants are out, Jets are a miracle away from making it to the playoffs.
