I Think I Got It, Beyoncé's New Album Is Here

I regularly checked the LA Times Pop & Hiss column, and, on Saturday night, there were simply six posts about Beyoncé…. Are you kidding me? Is she the only person who is releasing music these days? 7 out of their 11 last posts, isn’t it a bit over the top? And all this because she dropped an album by surprise? Big deal, many have done it before, what about Radiohead’s ‘The King of Limbs’, My Bloody Valentine and Bowie very recently? The Queen Bey didn’t invent the surprise album, so I don’t understand why did this generate so much how-did-she-kept-the-secret, oh-my-god-how-can-she-be-a-mom-and-doing-this? Anyway, the music wasn’t a complete surprise because she had previewed a track, “Grown Woman” in a Pepsi ad, and ‘Standing on the Sun,” was in an H&M campaign!

Plus this is a very pretentious album, but what else could we expect from Beyoncé? Excuse me, she called it ‘a visual album’! 14 tracks, alright, it’s very long but it’s fine, but 17 music videos as ‘companion pieces’? Yeezus Blue Ivy, how much of her can we endure to watch! Does she believe people are gonna sit for hours in front of their computers just to look at her? Probably because all she sells is sex, sex sex… she is hot and she has sex all over her lyrics, ‘Can you lick my Skittles, it’s the sweetest in the middle’, ‘I kiss you and you lick your lips/ You like it wet and so do I’, ‘We sex again in the morning, your breastses are my breakfast’,… And that’s great if she has all this sex with Jay-Z all the time, even when she cooks, she can’t keep her clothes on, but it’s so boring after a while, at least to me. I don’t care how hot she looks, I don’t care how sexy she is, and I don’t want her to tell me about it at each line! Not that we should expect substance from her, but apparently there is a song about beauty pageant contests, ‘Pretty Hurts’?? Excuse me for not taking any of this seriously, Beyoncé, queen of perfection, immaculate sex symbol, blessed by all the showbusiness gods, you are such a hypocrite.

Finally, because of the visual-album concept, her album comes at the hefty price of $15.99, at times when people don’t buy music anymore!  And she is selling, selling a lot of them nevertheless. She can do whatever she wants she will always be the queen of sales… . But she preaches consumerism it’s normal that she inspires it.
