The line up is a little slack so that may explain the lack of a sell out, the rule of thumb is if you can’t get even one former member of Swedish House Mafia, you’ve got a problem.
It wasn’t that extreme and nobody says it was. Two hours of flash flooding is not enough to excuse cancelling the entire proceedings and, I might add, two deaths wasn’t enough to cancel last year. if two people die in an accident on the highway, can no one use it for two days? If you knew them, it is a tragedy, if you didn’t it’s an incident.
It is really simple: EDM functions better on drugs. Sad? Perhaps. But it is not alone, psychedelia functioned better on psychedelics, punk was better with speed, jam bands with weed, disco with coke. And there will always be people who die, that’s just the way it goes
Increasing the number of plainclothes undercover security officers, placing drug-sniffing dogs at all entrances, and running background checks on all on-site vendors and employees. The latter of those plans being rather… idiotic but hey you do what you can.
When Daft Punk claimed EDM was in bad shape earlier this year I scoffed at the thought. But they might be right, you know. It is time to move beyond wake and bass.
Three people died at Woodstock for God’s sake. And I saw a very well organized and safe environment. There is no way to keep people from bringing drugs to a rave and it certainly SHOULD NOT have been closed down for today’s performance.
Tiesto, David Guetta, and Armin Van Buuren, oh my!
