Labor Day Weekend is booked as the Zoo takes over Randalls Island in NYC. The Electric Zoo, the edm shebang hit a rough patch last year as amateur ravers dropped like flies after ingesting too much fun.
EDM is insanely popular now and as the kids from the ‘burbs catch on the stupidity amps up but organizers are poised and ready to kick your ass if you mess up their gig.
Note the “increased medical, security and messaging procedures,” organizers are promising “the safest environment possible for fans.”
“We are incredibly excited to bring Electric Zoo back to New York,” Made Event co-CEOs Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma said in a statement. “Over the past five years, Electric Zoo has grown tremendously, becoming a critically acclaimed, internationally recognized music festival. The opportunity to again host Electric Zoo on Randall’s Island is a responsibility we take seriously, and we look forward to expanding our safety and security measures in order to further improve the concert experience for our fans.”
So whats the plan? Increasing the number of plainclothes undercover security officers, placing drug-sniffing dogs at all entrances, and running background checks on all on-site vendors and employees. The latter of those plans being rather… idiotic but hey you do what you can. I’ll have a pretzel and a side of Molly please.
But there are other elements that make sense like free water and electrolytes (how are those being adminstered?) but cutting performers sets short is rather desperate. Then again when they drop like flies I suppose you have to take such measures.
Tickets are on sale and the performers have yet to be announced. Prepare for more of the same mentality of ‘I was there’ rather than who ya see.
