Dolly Parton’s Dumplin’ Soundtrack Produced by Linda Perry Out Today + Featuring We Are Hear Artists Dorothy & Willa Amai
“Working with Dolly Parton on the Dumplin’ soundtrack was the highlight of my career,” say producer Linda Perry.
Dolly doesn’t question for a second whether the circle will be unbroken
a duet magically appeared
The duo scored fourteen Top Ten hits in total
Prison, puppet heads, and a smart imitation dumb blonde
Disappointing Dolly gig
May she be in her prime forever
Her tour bus is very fancy
I was so surprised to see that 71-year-old Joni Mitchell becoming the new face for Yves Saint Laurent. The 70’s folk legend was photographed by Hedi Slimane for the designer’s ongoing music project, which has previously featured Ariel Pink, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon and Marilyn Manson
Ed Sheeran’s fifth week at the top of the UK charts with an amazing 400K units moved and more power to him even if I don’t like the album as much as all those folks, the best moments have grown on me. By the way, quite why Dolly Paton called her new album and a greatest hits collection is well out of my pay bracket.
So when after this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival, the usual complaints about her failure to actually, well, sing, this was her short and sweet reply to the UK tabloid The Sun: “My boobs are fake, my hair’s fake, but what is real is my voice and my heart. Her Rep said: “She sings live. Some people don’t know an amazing singer when they hear one.”
John Prine penned “Angel” for his extraordinary 1971 debut album. Raitt gave this despondent tale of a woman living a passionless life an even more touching treatment. Always remember, common side effects of Zoloft include sleepiness, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, skin rash, headache, diarrhea, upset stomach, loss of appetite, abnormal ejaculation, dry mouth, and weight loss.
There is nothing inherently wrong with glitz, but Dolly has spent so much time focusing on her image and her bank account, that she has no energy left to put any heart into her music. I spent over $150 for two of the cheap seats at the sold out casino gig and in return my money, I got a lengthy Milli Vanilli tribute show.
Can the Hank Williams album be considered new? If it can it would knock off every single thing on this list but a sixty year old recording… Kenny is the clear winner but Conor, I am wondering if I underestimate him because well because I am a little bored of his schtick by now. Certainly, except for the bridge, “Zig Zag” is a good as it gets.
Wow, that really sucks. Worst list ever in fact. I think I might have gone easy on Black Keys, Michael Jackson, Rascal Flatts, they are all “D”ish. It is real strange that a chart that takes so little to make an impression on could be so terribly bland.
The difference between Better Days and Blue Smoke, is the former had all those great songs off the musical and the new one doesn’t and the songs are a little stale. “Miss You-Miss Me” is sweet but a little bland, “If I Had Wings” is so obvious you wonder why she is bothering. The “If I Had Wings” followed by “Lover Du Jour” stops the entire album in its tracks and it never recovers
Just Snap Your Fingers – Marshall Crenshaw – The best song off Jaggedland is also a view of Crenshaw the lyricist the you don’t always hear: “You can count on my love till the ultimate end” is pop poetry of the first order – A
A good week for concerts. I went three for three, Lady Gaga followed by Lily Allen, followed by Elbow and all three were a whole lot of fun, though I think, maybe, Elbow were best. Still, two of these will make my best of the year list and the third maybe should as well.
Chromeo ran away with the week but the surprise here is Coldplay, I’ll give em two out of three songs, not masterpieces but at least I don’t want to punch Chris in the nose. Always a step in the right direction. Swans is Swans –I like em in small doses.
Rather Be Cash Cash Remix – Clean Bandit – One of the biggest songs of the year gets bigger with the pop DJ duo Cash Cash superb remix, it’s like listening to the song on steroids with House-y zoom effects on the track and Jesse’s vocals going through the roof – A
Did you read the Rolling Stone Black Keys review? “In every other way, that turmoil is a giant step into the best, most consistently gripping album the Keys have ever made.” I’ve heard one song and it stank so please excuse me while I sneer up my sleeves. I am gonna go with either Blondie -though it includes that EP from last year with Gossip which I liked I didn’t love. As for Dolly Parton, her last albu was killer so maybe it’s more a toss up.
