the closure of the Satellite is a huge loss

Perfecting what they already know
I’m going with Dinosaur Jr
What are you thinking FYF fest, do you want to compete with Glastonbury or Coachella? … you were this cool DIY fest and now you are all grown up and so big. How much did you pay Kanye? More than Frank Ocean? I would like to know, as I was amazed to see that 2-day tickets were still available a few days before the festival,… which didn’t sell out?
Since the FYF fest is approaching, let’s revisit a few acts that I have seen before and may see again during this very busy weekend… Dinosaur Jr. is playing at one point and I may catch their set, the set times are not published yet, and if they play at the same time than Jesus and Mary Chain, Thee Of Sees or Metz for example, the choice is gonna be hard to make…
American Horror – Speedy Ortiz – This is a quirked out angular wall of guitars broken into from outside by Sadie Dupuis’s off melody singing, and this time at least it works great -like Best Cast meets Pavement, and also not too much like either – B+
A couple of hours later the stoically bemused Dinosaur Jr would be wowing the crowd on the same stage, and a little earlier the angular wit of Mac Demarcos and indie classicism of Speedy Ortiz would have their moment, but for right now the day belongs to the aggravated garage bang of Those Darlins. A quintessentially New York rock and roll moment the day after Tommy Ramone died.
I’ve seen three (Nude Beach, Speedy Ortiz and Dinosaur Jr) amd have heard two others (Mac deMarco and Those Darlins, plus heard of one more (Viet Cong – though less to do with hip underground bands, more to do with hip underground soldiers) and two of them (Radkey and Re-Tros) are a complete mystery to me.
