The nice people at Burgerama gave me a photo pass so I had access to the photo pit, which is certainly a delight but also a terrible temptation to take as many pictures as possible… This is just what I did, and I ended up with hundreds of photos to sort out today! Losing the vocal forces us to only endure the visual aspect of this collaboration from hell. The Black Lips are nothing more than a bar band. Non-descript , drum guitar bass for the bland set.
I had the chance to see Kim Shattuck not too long ago, during her short episode with the Pixies, and she was back with her own thing, the Muffs, playing inside the Observatory.
The Miss Piggy song is very fun and very funny, but except for the Sleeper Agent this is a song per album type deal. Freddie, The Floacist, Perfect Pussy, Black Lips: not one of them has worked through an entire album.
The episode of “New Girl” featuring Prince was like Pixie and Dixie as they outshone each other in whimsy and twerk and the song itself is one of the worst Prince has put his name to. It is so cutesy you wanna scream and, surely Prince’s calling card, the beat is flat – D+
heavy Southern guitars and a sort of spaghetti-via-the-bayous western atmosphere before a duel in the sun or in the mud. You can still hear the Black Lips’ signature drunken multi-vocal harmonies and at the end the song sound very much like one of their good old tunes
