Although I am a massive fan of Morrissey I have found that there are some rather interesting levels of fandom within his camp. People who simply enjoy his music or opinionated persona are actually the minority to the severely obsessed.
You think about an artist whose entire image is based upon discomfort with the world and inevitably they become the ‘Ringleader of The Tormented”. From people claiming to be him to groups of subcultures it’s a fascinating topsy turvy world of conspiracy and psycho babble.
The issue on the table is the blog “Morrissey World”. There is a group who are convinced this is a covert blog written by Morrissey himself. Others are convinced it’s a hoax meant to deceive fans and plump the ego of its creator. Who cares, right? Theres always some idiot who wishes they were someone else and the internet is the perfect forum for the entire facade.
Morrissey World is one of the most acid trip infused blogs I have ever read. Full of odd confusing nonsense that is supposed to carry hidden meeting. The disciples of the odd “Blue Rose Society” are conspiracy theorist to the highest degree. If your urine is a certain shade its certain its a sign from Moz himself that he supports the cause. OK I’m exaggerating a bit and again who really cares? Let the lunatics play- but its darker than that.
According to Wesley Adams a UK native with no real grudge, the sites creator/author is a character going by the handle The Rat. The Rat and his entorage are some pretty tough characters using the www as a playground to bully fans and spread tails (get it?) of grandeur.
“When you apply rationality and reasoning to the whole situation, you can do nothing else but agree that Morrissey would be utterly ashamed to be associated with a breed of people who openly abuse for entertainment in a public forum while the cult-casualties leered on. This is why many Moz-fans give the Blue Rose Society a very wide berth.”
Morrissey fans love the man for his sheer ability to connect to them at the heart. For anyone to impersonate him is ridiculous. Moz is famous for his dismissive nature, but not cruelty, especially to those fans whose spent cash pay his mortgage- he isn’t an idiot. Despite the banning and slander of a couple fans who reportedly ‘crossed the line ,Moz remains aloof which is part of his public image.
Not unlike teenagers who claim to know their idols to make others jealous these adult fans have taken it to an entirely new level- Impersonate, confuse and harass and bully those who question it all. Sad isnt it?
So the quest begins- to uncover who exactly is the author of Morrisseys World Is it the Rat or is it Morrissey himself hiding behind an inflated bravado. Adams plans to find out.
